AI-Powered Matching
Find the right partners, opportunities, and collaborators — automatically
The challenge & our answer
The Problem
Social-profit organizations waste weeks searching for partners with compatible expertise, interests, and geographic reach. They miss relevant funding calls, struggle to find volunteers with the right skills, and rely on personal networks that exclude qualified organizations they've never heard of. Manual search is slow, incomplete, and biased toward who you already know.
The Solution
Action Network Worldwide's matching engine analyzes your profile — interests, focus areas, specialty, location, and experience — then surfaces the most relevant people, organizations, and opportunities ranked by compatibility. Three layers of intelligence combine: exact interest overlap (fast, explainable), semantic similarity (catches "close but not identical" matches via AI embeddings), and geographic proximity. Match scores update as you connect, collaborate, and complete projects — the system learns what "good match" means from real outcomes.
Key Capabilities
People & Organization Matching
Receive personalized suggestions of members and organizations you should connect with, ranked by shared interests, complementary expertise, and geographic alignment. See exactly why you matched: "4 shared interests: climate-action, food-security, education, water-sanitation" or "Same specialty: Agricultural Economics".
Opportunity Matching
Active needs — funding calls, partnership opportunities, volunteer requests — boost match scores for users whose profiles fit. When an organization posts "Looking for graphic designer for climate campaign", members with graphic-design skills and climate-justice interests surface at the top. Your profile is the supply; opportunities are the demand signal.
Match Explanations
Every match shows its reasoning: shared interests, similar profile text, geographic proximity, or active needs. No black-box rankings — you understand why the platform suggested this connection and can judge relevance yourself.
Outcome Learning
When connections lead to collaborations, knowledge exchanges, or new opportunities, the system records the outcome. Successful matches boost future scores for similar pairings. The engine gets smarter as the network grows.
Self-Updating Matches
Update your profile, join an organization, or post an opportunity — your match set refreshes within seconds. Pre-computed overnight and served instantly, so discovery is always up to date without waiting for manual searches.
Network-Wide Search
Beyond suggested matches, search the entire member directory by topic, specialty, country, or keyword. Useful when you know exactly what you're looking for: "Show me all organizations working on marine conservation in Kenya" or "Find users with microfinance experience".
How It Works
Complete your profile
Add your interests, specialty, focus areas, match tags (skills, languages, project stage), and location. The more complete your profile, the better your matches.
Receive match suggestions
Log in and see your top matches on the dashboard — people and organizations ranked by compatibility. Filter by type (users vs organizations), sort by score, or search within your matches.
Review match reasons
Each match shows a score (0–100%) and signals: "3 shared interests", "Same country", "Similar profile to yours", or "Active need: Agricultural training program (2 matching tags)". Decide who to reach out to.
Connect with a message
Click "Connect" and write a personal message explaining why you're reaching out. The connection request goes to the other party for acceptance. No cold outreach — every connection starts with context.
Collaborate and close the loop
When the connection leads to a collaboration, knowledge exchange, or new opportunity, mark it as completed with an outcome. This outcome data feeds back into the matching engine, improving future suggestions for everyone.
