Community & digital tools for locally-led development

Engaging sustainable development professionals from around the globe

Action Network Worldwide is a global community of organisations and practitioners, sharing the tools, connections, and funding access to get work done.

We believe development should be self-determined. We envision a world where everyone has access to the tools to improve their community — guided by the community's own criteria. The Action Network groups collaborate and pool resources through the Action Network Worldwide platform to make that vision possible. Power to the People.

ANW Portal Update + AMA

Every other Thursday, 13:00 CET · 45 minutes · Online · Free A round-up of everything that moved on the Action Network Worldwide portal, followed by an open floor. We start with a welcome for anyone joining for the first time and a quick orientation — where to find what, and how the pieces fit together. Then the round-up: new features, new partnerships, the numbers behind the network, and member picks worth a look, from open calls to funding to platforms outside our own. Each session takes one topic and looks at it properly. We close with what's coming next, then hand over to you. The second half is yours: bring questions about the platform, about your own work on it, or about anything you'd like to see us build. No question is too basic — a good share of the room is new. Who it's for Members who want more out of the platform, and anyone outside it weighing up whether to join. No prior knowledge assumed. Good to know Slides are shared after every session, so it's fine to miss one. Come with your camera off if you'd rather just listen. Beyond Fisheries: Challenges and Opportunities in the Blue Economy

What comes to mind when we hear "blue economy"? For many, the answer is still fisheries. But the blue economy is much broader — and so are the opportunities for young people to shape it. Green Bridges hosts an interactive virtual exchange bringing together young people from Europe and Sub-Saharan Africa to explore ocean and coastal challenges and the opportunities they create for entrepreneurship, social innovation and community action. Facilitated by Khiusha Uaila and co-facilitated by Milton Chavane from ASSAMBA, the session combines practical input with breakout discussions where participants identify challenges from their own regions and co-create possible solutions. Target group: young people aged 18–30 from Europe and Sub-Saharan Africa. Green Bridges is a virtual exchange initiative connecting young people across Europe and Sub-Saharan Africa around climate action, social innovation and intercultural learning. The project is co-funded by the European Union.

The Kaleka Project — Empowering indigenous communities

Indigenous communities all over the world have developed systems to manage their forests or pastures in balance with nature. They would continue their sustainable practices if it wasn't for external forces that either take the land from them or provoke a change of behaviour. How can indigenous communities be empowered to resist? The Kaleka Project is an attempt to strengthen the indigenous communities on Borneo, Indonesia. The Dayak settlements face a multitude of challenges, external and internal forces, which the project tries to address simultaneously, taking cultural, natural, economic and social aspects into account alike. We introduce the case of the Dayak of Central Kalimantan and focus on two aspects: Legal Empowerment — how can indigenous communities become powerful advocates for their own legal rights? Biodiversity & Heritage — how do we preserve the indigenous crop diversity that sustains traditional practices, a true treasure for all humanity? We invite scholars, activists and those with a genuine interest in the empowerment of indigenous communities to share their views, experiences and ideas. Speakers: Standy Christianto (Borneo Institute); Destano Anugerahnu and Krismelia Y. Panji (Borneo Institute); Cristian Moreno Garcia (Weltweit e.V.).
